My name is David C. Ewing, and Vigo County has always been home. I was born and raised right here, graduated from Terre Haute South in 2000, and earned my degree from Indiana State University in December 2004. I’m a son, husband, PopPop, and family man — titles I cherish deeply and that ground me in my commitment to serve with heart, honesty, and humility.
After college, I spent several years working in local industry, holding positions that ranged from manufacturing line operator to engineer. That time shaped my work ethic, taught me how to lead teams, and gave me firsthand insight into the challenges and sacrifices that working families in our community face every day.
Eventually, I returned to my passion — public service and law enforcement. From patrol duties, specialized K9 operations, to honoring those who came before me as a member of honor guard, I’ve served in some of the most demanding roles in our sheriff’s office. Today, I also run a successful small business, helping neighbors across the Wabash Valley with custom welding and fabrication solutions.
I’ve walked multiple paths in life — and each one has helped prepare me to lead as your next sheriff.
My life has been guided by a simple belief: when a community gives you everything, you give back with everything you’ve got. That belief is what led me to public service. It’s why I wear many hats today — not just as a candidate, but as a small business owner, mentor, and active member of our community.
I am also proud to be a part of a family legacy of service. Greg Ewing, my cousin and former Vigo County Sheriff, set a high standard — and he continues to be one of the most respected law enforcement leaders our county has ever known. I seek not to fill his shoes, but to carry forward that same spirit of dedication, unity, and care for our people.
“Serving on the Honor Guard is how I give thanks to those who came before me.
It’s a reflection of my faith, my family, and the legacy I strive to live up to.”
1. Protecting Our Children and Schools
As someone who has worked inside our schools, I know the value of visibility, connection, and proactive protection. I will ensure our School Resource Officers are properly trained, present, and engaged — not just to respond to threats, but to build trust with students and staff. Every child deserves to feel safe the moment they walk through their school doors.
2. Combating Drugs and Crime
Our community deserves to feel safe — in our homes, on our roads, and in our neighborhoods. I will lead a department that prioritizes active community policing, enhanced drug interdiction, and strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement. We’ll target traffickers, not addicts — offering those struggling with addiction a path to recovery, not just incarceration.
3. Fiscal Responsibility & Transparency
Taxpayers deserve a Sheriff’s Office that respects every dollar. As both a law enforcement professional and small business owner, I understand how to manage budgets with integrity. I will ensure your tax dollars are used wisely — with complete transparency and public accountability.
4. Community Policing & Visibility
I believe in a sheriff who knows the people — not just the paperwork. As Sheriff, I will make it a priority to be present in neighborhoods, schools, churches, and community meetings. Deputies will be empowered to build real relationships with the citizens they serve, because trust starts with visibility and respect.
5. Jail Operations & Reform
We must balance accountability with rehabilitation. I will prioritize safety for our staff and inmates, ensure compliance with state standards, and explore evidence-based programs that reduce recidivism. A safer jail leads to a safer community.
“This campaign isn’t about politics. It’s about people — and putting Vigo County first, together.”
